Have you ever heard of saturation diving? Me neither, until I came across a remarkable story, that has been beautifully brought to life in a newly released film.
Saturation divers are the brave men who carry out complex technical work in the offshore oil & gas industry—maintaining, inspecting and building underwater infrastructure like pipelines, manifolds and platform legs. The challenge is that they work at depths of around 100 to 300 metres below sea level.

It was one of those days. I was traveling to see my parents in Germany and had to transit at Frankfurt Airport. I had built in sufficient buffer time to manoeuvre the massive airport. But things took a turn when I realised the transit required me to practically exit the airport and queue again at security.

Mikael Lindnord was an adventure racer by heart. Since 1997, he had thrown himself into one of the world’s most punishing endurance sports — a mix of mountain biking, trail running, kayaking, climbing, swimming, and sometimes crawling through jungle mud. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749–1832) is best known as one of Germany’s most influential poets, novelists, and thinkers. But in 1777, he also ventured into artistry. With the support of his former teacher, Adam Friedrich Oeser, Goethe designed and commissioned the above sculpture from a local stonemasonry, placing it in his garden in Weimar.
At first glance, it was a simple structure… a solid cube at the base with a globe resting on top. But its symbolism ran much deeper.
